Wednesday was a special day, we held a small ground breaking ceremony to start the next phase of our building project. It is very exciting to know that we are finally at the phase of building where the baby house can be started soon. The foundation work will start as soon as the foundation for the Toddler House's Director's home is finished.
There were approximately 60 people at the ground breaking ceremony. We had two teams here along with our staff and the Haitian masons who are doing the work on the buildings. It was very special to have a team from Family Christian at the ceremony.

We had prayer, reading of scripture, a song service, and messages from Dennis Tyson, Family Christian Staff Member, John Bickel, our co-founder, and then me, the director. We wanted it simple but meaningful. Ground was broken and a ribbon cut. It felt official and so good to take that first shovel of dirt and toss it into the cistern site!
The short ceremony was followed by a barbeque pork and chicken feast! We had Haitian side dishes of Haitian potato salad, picklies, cole slaw, baked beans, chips, soda, and a beautiful cake make by Miss Molly Little, our cake decorating master! ;-)
About 6:30 PM, Mr. Steeve Bickel provided a fantastic fireworks extravaganza that was enjoyed by all and made his mother proud! Although my heart did flutter a couple of times when some of the fireworks went off course and exploded kind of low to the ground!
Everyone had a part in making the day special and I have to say our GLA staff is the best! I cannot thank everyone who helped make this something we will remember forever.
The baby orphanage and NICU will be named Family Christian Angels House. What a wonderful name for our new baby orphanage!
I truly cannot wait for it to be built and us move to the Fort Jacques site.
Still looking for teams of skilled workers to come help build! Would you like to have a part in making the dream of a new orphanage become a reality? If you are, please check out the volunteer page!
