Tom Vanderwell will be leaving GLA

Tom Vanderwell joined the GLA staff full-time in January of 2011. With the donations down to our general operating expenses, we have looked at ways we can bring down our operating budget. Before Tom joined our staff, all fundraising and social media was done by the staff in Haiti and by those in our US office. We have continued to do our part of the blogging and fundraising and will now step up and do more. After much prayer, discussion and sadness, it was decided back in March that his position will be eliminated as of May 11, 2014.

Tom worked with us closely after the earthquake of 2010 to help the children and bring supplies and medical teams in to Haiti. He communicated with adoptive families to let them know what was happening in Haiti. This was such a huge help in those first weeks of crisis and uncertainty here in Haiti.

Tom has been instrumental in setting up our orphan sponsorship program through social media. He has worked closely with the staff in Haiti to get the program up and running and it has been a very successful program. Tom has also helped find new sponsors for our education sponsorship program. We have learned more about social media since Tom has joined the GLA staff than we ever knew before and we have now embraced social media and all of it’s outlets!

The GLA administration, Board, and all of the staff want to send Tom a BIG THANK YOU for his service to God’s Littlest Angels and all of the children.  He has made a difference in the lives of many of the children.

Please join us in keeping Tom, his wife Cheryl and their children, in our prayers and pray that he will find another position quickly that is a right fit for his family.

Thank you. These past years have been the most joy filled, Spirit filled, frustrating, disappointing, wonderful, educational and deeply enriching years and I move on to whatever God has planned a much deeper and more thoughtful person than I was when I came. I've learned a lot about orphan care, about missions, about development, about corrupt politicians, about disease, about passion and about God and His plan than I ever thought I would. I've also had the remarkable opportunity to meet some amazing people and to become friends with people who are inspirational and encouraging. Oh and I've met some absolutely adorable kids who all have needed someone to step up and help - and countless of you have. I witnessed that again today as we sent 57,000 diapers and 13,000 sq. ft of turf down to Haiti to make life easier for the kids at GLA. God is good! All the time!

Tom, you were our first contact with GLA and played such a vital role in Sonia's journey. I want to thank you for the years you have dedicated to the children of GLA, specifically our daughter Sonia. Thank you also for being a supportive adoptive parent who's "been there" and offered encouragement and support to us new adoptive families. You will be greatly missed by many people! We trust God will open up a new door of ministry for vulnerable kids/families. I know you will continue to use your gifts and passion and another organization will be blessed to have you!

Tom, You've done so much for GLA and for these kids. You've exponentially raised awareness, interest, funds, in-kind donations and passion for the care of orphans. God has used you richly. I know God has a plan for you, and that whatever you do next, you will be a HUGE blessing there.
