Water & Crackers
Water and crackers... sounds like something you eat when you have the flu or a stomach ache, right? How about eating that to survive? How about giving that your new born baby to survive? Last night we received a two month old, 6 lb 12 oz baby, "M", from a clinic who severely malnourished. His mother suffers from post-partum depression and was unable to care for the child, so the child's grandmother started caring for the child. In his two months of life, if he ever had milk, it was a rare occasion and when there was enough money he was given smashed up crackers mixed in water.
Overnight and during the day baby M did very well and was responding to his treatment. Sadly, at about 7:00 this evening, he passed away abruptly, all related to his severe malnutrition. Malnutrition is always touch and go, between electrolyte changes, stomach distention, fevers, infection, etc. In this case, his small, frail body could not handle it any longer.
We take comfort in knowing, this beautiful baby boy is with Jesus now, no longer suffering. Also, knowing there are things to be learned from his situation and his care. There are so many children out there in similar circumstances.
Please pray tonight for this angel and his family, for comfort and peace in the midst of their hurt. Please also lift all of those that cared and were invested in M's life before and during his short time at GLA; they are also at a loss this evening.
