We've got a new website all set up and running and lots of awesome new pictures and videos. I'm excited about how it's going to make it a lot easier for you, our team member and supporter, to see what we're doing and what is happening.
Dixie and I decided that "my" page on the blog should be called "Making a Difference." Why did we pick that?
A couple of reasons:
- Without you, we couldn't do what we do. We would not have the resources necessary to take care of the kids and help them grow and recover the way we do. You are making a difference.
- What you do is more than just donate money. Yes, we need you to do that, but by donating money or buying supplies, what you are doing is saying, "I believe in the kids in Haiti. I believe that the kids in Haiti need help and deserve a chance at a full life." You are joining us in our mission to care for the children in Haiti who have no one who is both willing and able to care for them.
- Because by helping us make a difference, you are part of fulfilling the Biblical mandate to care for the orphans of the world. You are being the hands and feet of Christ by helping us do what we do on the ground in Haiti.
I'll never forget a conversation that I had with John Bickel the first time my wife and I were at GLA. One night, John and I were sitting outside by his workshop at the main house, rocking in the big rockers and I was enjoying listening to him tell stories about life in Haiti. He said to me, "You know, a lot of people come to a place like Haiti and go home feeling like they should move to a third world country to make a difference. That wouldn't work. It would be impossible."
"Why?" I asked.
"Because if everyone "went" to a third world country, then there would be no one "back home" to support the work that needs to get done."
That hit me - what those of us in the first world do makes a difference. By our support, we are enabling those "on the ground" to do what they do.
You are part of the GLA team. We couldn't do it without you.
There's a lot of really awesome stuff going on between now and the end of the year. I'll be sharing a lot more of it soon. But remember, you are making a difference and you are part of the GLA team.
Thank you for making a difference for the kids,
